BIBLE GAMES AND ACTIVITIES (USING BOOKS OF THE BIBLE CARDS)

Book Race
A very popular game with the kids is to put all 66 books of the Bible cards face down on the floor. Form two teams, assigning one team the Old Testament and the other team the New Testament. The object is to retrieve all the cards for the appropriate testament and put them in correct order on a table. Each team is timed. Then the game is played again working with the opposite testament. The two times are added together to determine a winner. Kids have a great time getting on the floor trying to find the right cards, and then racing to the finish.

Line Up
Put the six category cards face up on a table and deal the 66 Bible cards to the children. The player who has Genesis starts by placing it next to the "Law" category. If the same player has Exodus, he or she can also play that card by placing it half way over the Genesis card and so on. For categories that have both Old Testament and New Testament books, such as 'prophecy,' cards can be placed in both directions, but always starting with the first book of the category, then in proper order. A player can only start a category on the first card played during his or her turn, but a player can build on a category until he or she is no longer able to. Play continues clockwise. The first player to place all of his or her cards down on the table wins, but the other players continue until all the books are placed in the proper order.

Book Concentration
Place 36 cards face down on a table, six across and six down. For Old Testament cards, use four from Law, four from History, four from Poetry, four from Major Prophets, and six from Minor Prophets. For New Testament, use four from the Gospels and eight from Letters. Also include one card for Acts and one for Revelation.

The kids will take turns turning over two cards. For example, if both cards are from Old Testament History, the player will take these cards without making any further moves. The next player will then take his or her turn. Cards that are turned over and do not match are placed back on the table, facing down in the same location. Acts and Revelation cards counts as a match.

Bible Book Bingo
For this game, you can use two sets of cards, or write the names of each book on a strip of paper instead of using a second set. Give each child nine books of the Bible cards. Have the children lay their cards face up in front of them in three rows of three cards. The teacher draws one book from the other stack, or picks a slip of paper and calls out the name of the book. The child with that book card turns over his or her card. The first child to turn over all of his or her cards wins the game. Continue playing until all the children have turned over all their cards.

Next Card Please
This game works best if you have six or more children. Deal out all the cards, excluding category cards, to every child. Have the children stand in a line a few feet away from a table. Explain that the object is to place all the cards in order on the table as quickly as possible. Use a stopwatch to determine how long it takes. As the children hold the cards so they can see them, start the game by asking who has Genesis, and have them run up to the table and place the card on the far left side. Then he or she will go back to where he or she stood on the line. The child who has Exodus runs up and places his or her card next. Continue until the children place all of the cards on the table in the correct order. Record how long it took. Then set a goal to have kids beat their previous time and play again.

Flash Card Bible Books
Before the game, write on the back of each card whether the book belongs in the New Testament or the Old Testament. Divide the class into two teams. Have each team form a single file line facing you and on the other side of a table from you. Use the Bible cards like flash cards. As you present each card, the children in the front of the line will compete to tell you whether the book belongs in the Old Testament or the New Testament. The first correct answer will get the card added to that team's pile of cards. The team that has the most cards at the end of the game wins. Children move to the back of the line after each turn.
