PRAYER

LESSON 1: I Can Talk To God

Lessons in this series: 1 2 3 Overview

This Sunday school lesson will help the children know how much it pleases God when they talk with Him through prayer.

TOPICS

Prayer, Pleasing God

AS KIDS ARRIVE (10 minutes)

As the children arrive have them sit on the floor facing you. Ask them to raise their hands if they can think of a way to talk to someone that isn't in the same room with them. If the kids need help suggest things like phones, letters, e-mails, or maybe even shouting. Then ask them if they have any ideas on how we can talk to God.

BIBLE VERSE (5 minutes)

"Hear me as I pray, O Lord. Be merciful and answer me!" Psalm 27:7 NLT
Explain to the children that God wants us to come and talk to Him. God wants us to tell Him what is on our hearts and minds. God is a great listener and wants the very best for us. We can talk to God at anytime and in any place.

BIBLE STORY (15 minutes)

Gather the children around you in preparation for story time. After the introduction, read the passage right from the Bible. If possible, use a Children's Bible so it will be easier for the kids to understand.

Introduction:
Today, we will be learning that God loves it when we talk to Him. Another name for talking to God is called prayer. Isn't it great that God wants us to talk to Him. How should we talk or pray to God? The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 29:13 that when we pray, God wants us to pray with all of our heart and really talk to Him.

Read Jeremiah 29:11-13

Start by praying to God and thanking Him for His loving kindness and for all the good things He provides. We should take time each day to talk with God and sing songs of worship to Him.

CLOSING ACTIVITY (5-10 minutes)

As the children wait to be picked up, talk to them about the many different ways in which we can pray. We can pray when we are standing, walking, kneeling, bowing, or singing. We can pray quietly when we are lying down in bed. We can pray with our hands together or with outstretched arms. We can pray in the morning, before meals, and even at night.

NEXT WEEK
