PREPARATION:

Gather enough ingredients prior to class so each child can make two or three lion crackers.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Help the kids spread peanut butter on the crackers. Then have them add a raisin for the nose and two Cheerios for the eyes to complete each lion. The cracker represents the mane. If anyone asks about the mouth, explain that their mouths are closed. If time permits, each child can make several lions to eat during class and some to take home.

Ask the children not to eat the lions until you say so.

WHAT YOU WILL SAY:

First, talk about how God protected Daniel from being eaten alive by the lions in the lions' den. He sent an angel to close the mouths of the lions, so they would not eat Daniel. That's why there are no mouths on our lion crackers.

Explain how God can also help us when we have lions in our lives. We just need to have faith in Him and trust Him to take care of us. What are some examples of a "lion" that you may face as young children?

Each time a child mentions something that is a "lion" in his or her life, have everyone take a bite out of a lion cracker.

Examples:

• Being afraid of the dark
• Being separated from parents
• Being in a strange place
• Getting hurt

*Make sure no one is allergic to peanuts. If so, you can substitute cake icing.
