After completing this Sunday school lesson, the children will learn that the Bible is our source for heavenly wisdom. Hearing, reading, studying, memorizing and meditating on the Word of God will help us live a good life that is pleasing to God.
TOPICS
Word of God, Bible, Wisdom
AS KIDS ARRIVE (10 minutes)
If most of the children have completed their Old and New Testament Books of the Bible handout sheets, use the option shown below. Otherwise, you can continue with writing down the books of the Bible. Also, allow kids an opportunity to demonstrate how far they can go towards getting stars on the Starboard.
Wisdom Option:
As the children arrive, have them turn to Proverbs 1 in their Bibles and begin reading. (It is alright that children start at different times.) Have the kids read to themselves, except when they come to the words "WISDOM" and "WISE", to say those words out loud. As more and more kids arrive, the words wisdom and wise will be heard quite often.

MEMORY WORK (12 minutes)
Book Circle (Game)
Have the children sit in a circle, and select one child to start the game. That child must say the first book of the Bible, and going clockwise, the next child says the next book and so on. Instruct the children that if they do not know the book on their turn they can say pass, and the next child to the right can try. You can also time the kids to see how fast they can name all the books in this fashion, and even set a quicker goal to see if they can reach it. The child that finishes can start the next round.
SCRIPTURE READING AND DISCUSSION (15 minutes)
Introduction:
The Bible is our source for Wisdom. As you discovered a little while ago, the Proverbs are full of wise sayings. King Solomon asked for wisdom instead of riches or a long life, so God gave him wisdom unlike anyone else. Daniel was also very wise, because he walked in the ways of our Lord. The Bible is full of wise men, but they all had one thing in common. They knew the Will of God, and followed His Word. Let's see what the Bible says about wisdom.
Read 2 Timothy 3:14-17
Discussion Questions:
1. In verse 15, what are the holy Scriptures able to do? (Make you wise for salvation through faith.)
2. What does all scripture is "God-breathed" mean? (Because God Himself inspired the writers of the Bible, everything in it is exactly what God wants us to have.)
3. All of Scripture is useful for what? (Teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training.)
4. Will knowing the Word of God help you do good works? Why? (Allow for answers.)

APPLICATION (5 minutes)
Read James 3:13-17 to the children. Explain that this scripture talks about two kinds of wisdom. The person with wisdom that comes from Heaven is peace-loving, considerate, submissive, merciful, produces good fruit and so on. But the person with the other kind of wisdom— worldly wisdom from the devil—is selfish, ambitious, envious, disordered, and every other evil practice. The Bible is our source for heavenly wisdom Hearing, reading, studying, memorizing and meditating on the Word of God will help us to live a good life. And when we ask God for wisdom, He will gladly give it to us.
NEXT WEEK
