ADDITIONAL SERIES RESOURCES:
Our Good Shepherd (Bulletin Board)
Lesson 1 - Jesus Understands Our Troubles
Through this lesson children will find that Jesus understands the troubles that we go through and that He will compassionately help us through difficult times. Memory Work - Hebrews 4:15; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Hebrews 4:14-16.
Application: Isn't it comforting to know that Jesus understands us, our trials and our temptations? It is never easy to go through hard times or face pain, but Jesus loves us and will help us get through the tough times. No matter the problem Jesus is there for us. Jesus said that He would never leave or forsake us. When trouble comes prayer and studying of the scriptures will give us insight on how we can overcome our problems and weaknesses. It is reassuring to know that the Creator of Heaven and Earth is there to help us.
Lesson 2 - Jesus Protects Us
Through this lesson children will learn that Jesus not only understands our troubles, but also that He will help us get through the difficult times in our lives. Memory Work - Psalm 103:13; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Matthew 18:5-6, 10-14.
Application: Just as a shepherd watches over his flock the Lord Jesus watches over us. God will protect us when trouble comes our way. Isn't it encouraging to know that God not only has His ministering angels watching over us, but that He also sent His one and only son Jesus to save us from our sins. If we read our Bibles, pray and listen for God's gentle voice, we will hear the voice of the good shepherd softly calling us home.
Lesson 3 - Jesus Helps Us Grow
Through this lesson children will learn that difficulties, although not pleasant, help us grow and mature in our walk with Jesus. Jesus is there, lovingly helping us through these times of refinement. Memory Work - Hebrews 12:7; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Hebrews 12:5-13.
Application: Behold the beauty of wild flowers. They start off as seeds that fall to the ground, get covered in dirt and go through rainstorms. It's through these hardships that the seeds are able to grow into beautiful flowers. So it is with us, the hardships in our lives stretch us and allow us to grow. We should never fear these difficult times, because we do not go through these times alone—God is with us every step of the way. Just as sculptors or artists create beautiful art, God creates beauty and purpose in those who love Him.
Lesson 4 - We Can Help One Another
Through this lesson children will learn that there are a lot of ways that children can help others in the community, whether it be at home, school or church. Memory Work - John 14:27; Scripture Reading and Discussion - 2 Corinthians 1:3-5; James 1:27; Romans 15:1-2.
Application: Going through difficult times enables us to grow. We can use the difficult situations we've gone through in the past to help others with similar problems. Our prior experience may be just the thing we need to help understand what someone else is going through and allow us to compassionately come to his or her aid.
