SERIES DESCRIPTION

This three week series teaches children that they have been wonderfully created by God and given both physical and spiritual gifts which we should use to glorify Him.

ADDITIONAL SERIES RESOURCES:

Perfect Gifts (Bulletin Board)
Work of His Hads (Bulletin Board)

Lesson 1 - Vessels of Clay

After completing this lesson, the children will know that they are special because they are made by God, and that they have a special purpose in God’s Kingdom. Memory Work - Isaiah 64:8; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Jeremiah 18:1-10.

Application: In Romans 9:21, Paul asks this question, “Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?" The answer of course is yes, the potter does have the right. Likewise, God has the right to make some of His people serve one purpose, and others to serve another purpose. The great thing is, whatever the purpose, we can rejoice that God is the one who gave it to us. No two people are exactly alike. However, God made us all, and anyone who belongs to God, can be used by God.

Lesson 2 - Gifts from Above

After completing this lesson, the children will discover they are special because God will give them Spiritual Gifts to help serve in His Kingdom. Memory Work - James 1:17; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11.

Application: God gives special gifts to His people so they can serve others. When we receive Jesus as our Savior, we are given a special gift. This gift is not a great talent or skill that we learn over time, instead it is God actually working through us. People have many needs, and the church has many areas to serve. That is why all gifts are not the same, but all are important and helpful to minister to the body of Christ, that is the church. We must keep in mind, however, as great as these gifts are, there is one gift that is more special, more important, and more precious than any other. That is the gift of Jesus. God gave His only Son to die for us, so we could be saved from our sins, and have everlasting life. If God cared so much about us to give up His Son, should we not also use our gifts as often as we can to glorify Him.

Lesson 3 - The Body of Christ

After completing this lesson, the children will discover that we are all part of the Body of Christ, and in unity we should work towards the common good of the Church. Memory Work - 1 Corinthians 12:27; Scripture Reading and Discussion - 1 Corinthians 12:12-27.

Application: Everyone should use the gifts and talents that God gives them. Although we consider some gifts more valuable, like preaching or teaching, all gifts are important to God, and all are needed in the Church. When all these gifts and talents are working together, it is called unity. Just like all the parts of our body need to work together in unity, so do all the people in the church. And no one is too young to help. Everyone, no matter how young can pray, or pick up trash that falls on the floor, or even help mom or dad prepare for a lesson by keeping quiet. Nothing is too small when it helps for the common good of the church.
