Lesson 1 - Love is Patient

In this first lesson, children will discover that godly love means we can wait patiently until His blessings are revealed to us. Memory Work - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Genesis 29:1-30.

Application: When the Apostle Paul described love to the Corinthians, the first thing he said was, "Love is patient." We don't usually think of patience as describing love, but it does. With true love, we will have the ability to wait for whatever it is we hope for. Athletes love sports, but to excel they must patiently practice for many years. Do you think Michael Jordan just woke up one day and was a professional in the NBA? Of course not, he had to practice from the time he was a small child. He didn’t even make the cut for his high school basketball team. But because he loved basketball, he kept with it. If we truly love something, we will be willing to wait for it. Like a mother patiently teaches her children, or a man waits patiently to win the heart of his future bride. But most of all, because we love Jesus, we will wait patiently to be with Him in Heaven, all the while staying obedient to His word.

Lesson 2 - Love is Kind

In this lesson, children will discover how genuine love that comes from God means we will show kindness to all people, even our enemies. Memory Work - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Luke 10:25-37.

Application: We know it is important to love and be kind to each other. But today we learned that Jesus wants us to love even our enemies. That takes a very powerful kind of love that can only come from Jesus. But who is our enemy? It can be anyone who thinks differently from us, who disagrees with us, or who treats us badly. It can be a neighbor, a school mate, a relative, or even a friend. But if we are kind and loving to them, who knows, we may draw them to Jesus. And Jesus loves everyone, even those who put Him to death on a cross. If Jesus can love people who put Him to death, surely we can love those who simply look down on us.

Lesson 3 - Love is Forgiving

In this lesson, the children will learn how to choose love and forgiveness over getting even, through the Old Testament Bible story of Joseph. Memory Work - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Genesis 37:12-28, 42:1-8, 45:1-15.

Application: Hate and anger are always defeated where there is love. If you know how to forgive, your love will be perfect. Love covers all sins and wrongdoings, as God covers ours sins through Jesus Christ. God forgives us because of His love only through the death of His Son. So if we do not forgive, how can we say that we have love? This week, show someone that you love them, even if they don't show love to you. And if anyone does something wrong to you, show them how much better it is to forgive than to be upset.

Lesson 4 - Love is Everlasting

In this lesson, the children will learn that true love, the kind that comes from God will last forever, no matter what may come. Memory Work - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Psalm 136:1-26.

Application: We have often heard it said that nothing lasts forever. But that is just not true. The love that comes from Jesus does last forever. But how can we show this to others? How can we give a love that is forever? The answer is actually quite simple. Whatever we do on this earth has an everlasting effect. The world changes because of what we do. If we live a life full of love, the changes we start will reflect that love. The love will spread to others, and because they felt that love, they too will spread more love. And that love will spread again and again. The effect will be everlasting.
