SERIES DESCRIPTION

A three week series teaching that those who are wise realize true blessings come from the Lord.

ADDITIONAL SERIES RESOURCES:

Basketful of Joy (Bulletin Board)

Lesson 1 - The Rich Young Man

Through this lesson children will learn how to recognize what it is they treasure and find that their treasures will influence the way in which they live. Memory Work - Luke 12:34; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Matathew 19:16-23.

Application: There are many things in this world that will compete for our time and our hearts. We have to be careful not to allow them to take the place of God. From time to time we should take a good hard look at ourselves and determine what it is we treasure the most. If we find that we aren't treasuring God, we should ask God to forgive us and then ask Him to help us get back on the right track.

Lesson 2 - Love of Money

Through this lesson children will learn that we must always realize from whom our blessings flow, and place our hope solely on God. We should enjoy the blessings God provides, but not pursue them for their own sakes. Memory Work - 1 Timothy 6:10a; Scripture Reading and Discussion - 1 Timothy 6:6-10, 17-19.

Application: We can enjoy the blessings that God richly provides, being content, knowing that He will provide more than meets our needs. Our focus should be on the giver and sustainer of life, rather that the material gifts and trying to figure how we can become rich. If we are blessed financially, we should not think too highly of ourselves and guard against the temptation to trust in our riches. We must always realize from whom our blessings flow and place our hope solely on God. We should be rich in good deeds, be generous and willing to share, for in doing so, we will be laying up treasures in Heaven for the coming age.

Lesson 3 - The Rich Man and Lazarus

Through this lesson children will learn that a fool spends his life trying to satisfy his own sinful desires, while a wise person will live a life that pleases God. Memory Work - Galatians 6:8; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Luke 16:19-31.

Application: We have a choice on how we can live our lives. We can live selfishly to please our sinful nature, thinking only of ourselves, which leads to destruction; or we can live to please God and reap eternal life.
