ADDITIONAL SERIES RESOURCES:
The Safest Way (Bulletin Board)
Lesson 1 - Godliness in a Corrupt World
After completing this lesson, the children will understand the importance of living a godly and righteous life instead of conforming to a sinful world. Memory Work - 1 John 2:15; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Genesis 6:1-10.
Application: In 1 John 3:12 the Bible says “Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous.” The people who lived during the time of Noah were like Cain, wicked and evil in every way. They desired what is in the world, such as pride, wealth, greed, dishonesty and craving pleasures. But Noah was righteous. He lived his life according to God’s will, not influenced by the wicked people around him. And we can live a godly and righteous life too, by being compassionate, kind, humble, honest and patient. Like Noah.
Lesson 2 - An Enduring Faith
After completing this lesson, the children will understand the magnitude of the task given to Noah, and how sometimes we must have patience and perseverance to receive God’s blessings. Memory Work - James 5:8; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Genesis 6:11-22.
Application: In Hebrews 11:7 the Bible says, “By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith." It is not for certain how long it took Noah to build the ark. But we do know for sure that God did not unleash his wrath until the ark was finished. It would have been easy for Noah to give up. What a tremendous task. But with faith and perseverance, he received what God had promised him. Christians with real faith do not give up because something is hard or takes a long time. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
Lesson 3 - An Obedient Faith
After completing this lesson, the children discover how salvation comes by being obedient to God’s calling. Memory Work - 1 John 5:3-4a; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Genesis 7:1-10, 13-17.
Application: God told Noah that He would destroy the earth, but only Noah and his family were saved. Only Noah and his family were obedient to God’s command to enter the ark. For Noah and his family, the ark was a means of salvation. It took having faith in God, and being obedient to His Word even though it was unclear what would happen next. Jesus came to earth to be our savior. All we need to do is put our trust in Jesus, and be obedient to his will, and we can have life with him. Many people today hear this good news but decide to do nothing. They cannot see the danger. Because they cannot see it, they believe everything is all right. The Bible says, “There is a way that seems right to man, but in the end it leads to death.” (Proverbs 16:25) Noah did the right thing by obeying God.
Lesson 4 - Safety from Wrath
After completing this lesson, the children will see the magnitude of God’s wrath, also how He provides safety (salvation) for His people. Memory Work - 1 Thessalonians 5:9; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Genesis 7:17-24; 8:1-17.
Application: The Bible says “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people who suppress the truth by their wickedness” Romans 1:18-20 NIV. The flood was so severe, nothing survived. But God remembered Noah. God rescued Noah, because he was a righteous man and he obeyed the Lord. Salvation was given to Noah, and everyone with him.
Lesson 5 - Everlasting Covenant
After completing this lesson, the children will understand the significance of God’s covenant with Noah and will review the last four lessons. Memory Work- Genesis 9:16; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Genesis 8:20-22; 9:1-17.
Application: The story of Noah teaches us many things about salvation. First, the world during the time of Noah was corrupt in God’s eyes and full of violence. Not unlike the world today. Everyday we hear news of terrible things happening. We live in a corrupt world, but like Noah, we can live righteous lives instead of doing bad things. As the ark provided safety for Noah and his family, our hope for salvation is in Jesus. As God asked Noah to come into the safety of the ark, Jesus is asking us to let him come into our hearts. In this, we have salvation. God’s judgment is fair, and must be poured out upon sin, but Jesus paid the price for us. We can be thankful that God promised never to destroy the earth again with a flood. With this covenant, He is showing his great patience towards us.
