SERIES DESCRIPTION

In these lessons on the book of Job, children learn that we must not allow afflictions to separate us from God, but rather allow them to draw us closer to Him.

ADDITIONAL SERIES RESOURCES:

Consider God's Wonders (Bulletin Board)

Lesson 1 - The Testing of Job

This lesson teaches children that just as we joyfully praise God when things are going well, we, like Job, should patiently trust God to deliver us through our seasons of suffering. Memory Work - Job 23:12; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Job 1:1-22.

Application: In our lesson today, we learned that spiritual warfare is real. Satan was allowed to torment Job to tempt him to curse God. Job knew his strength came from the Lord and clung tightly to Him during his season of suffering. When we go through troubling times, we may not be able to see the beginning from the end, but we can take comfort in knowing that God works for the good of those who love Him.

Lesson 2 - Windy Words

Through the example of Job's friends, children learn how to comfort others. Memory Work - Matthew 7:22; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Job 16:1-5.

Application: In our lesson today, Job's friends attempted to comfort him, but their words brought him more misery than relief. We learned that we should put ourselves in the position of the person we are trying to help and then treat them, as we would like to be treated if we were in a similar situation.

Lesson 3 - In Awe of God

Through this lesson, children learn that we can take comfort in knowing that God is in control. Memory Work - Psalm 147:5; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Job 38, 40:1-14, 42:1-17.

Application: In our lesson today, Job didn't discover why he went through so many difficulties, but he did come to the realization that God is in control. We learned that God's ways are higher than our ways and that His understanding has no limits. Like Job, we do not know all the reasons for the difficulties we face in this life. However, we can take comfort in knowing that God is in control, He loves us, and He works all things together for the good of those who love Him.
