Lesson 1 - True Thanksgiving
After completing this lesson, the children will understand true thanksgiving and how they can show they are thankful for all of the blessings given to them by God. Memory Work - 1 Thessalonians 5:18; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Matthew 6:25-26; 1 Timothy 6:!7; 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
Application: The pilgrims must have been very grateful to God for keeping them fed during the cold winters long ago. But God is the same today. He wants us to be happy. He provides many things for us to enjoy. When we are thankful for what God has provided, we will show it in the way we look, the way we act, and the way we feel. It will also be easier for us to treat others with kindness and to enjoy our lives. The opposite is also true. When we do not appreciate God's blessings and do not thank Him we will look and act unhappily. Others will see it, but more importantly, we will feel it.
Lesson 2 - Don't Worry - Be Thankful
After completing this lesson, the children will learn that our focus should not be on ourselves, but rather on God's Kingdom and His righteousness. As God supplies our daily needs, we should express our gratitude with prayers of thanksgiving. Memory Work - Matthew 6:27; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Matthew 6:25-34.
Application: Christians should be sincerely thankful to God for He alone sustains us. We should be appreciative of even the smallest gift God gives us, and we should offer Him prayers of heartfelt thanks throughout our waking hours as we encounter His goodness to us. It is also important to remember that God may use us to help meet the prayer needs of others, in which we should be exceedingly happy.
