SERIES DESCRIPTION

Jesus spent much of His time teaching His disciples about the Kingdom of God and how to live godly lives. Lessons in this series cover some of these many teachings during Jesus' ministry. You can use these lessons by themselves as stand-alones, or together as a series.

Lesson 1 - Who is the Greatest?

After completing this lesson, the children will understand that God honors those who are humble. Memory Work - Matthew 18:4; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Mark 9:33-37, Matthew 18:1-5.

Application: We learned the differences between humility and pride. We found that God sees those who are humble as the greatest in His Kingdom. We also discovered that Jesus came to serve, not to be served, and that we are to do the same.

Lesson 2 - Making Promises

Through this lesson, the children will learn the importance of keeping their promises. Memory Work - Matthew 5:37; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Matthew 5:33-37.

Application: Today, we learned that God wants us to keep our promises. We should not swear by heaven, by earth, or anything else. We also learned that there are consequences to breaking promises and discovered the value in keeping our answers simply yes or no.

Lesson 3 - Love Your Enemies

In this lesson, children will see the love that God has for all His people and how we are to show that same kind of love and kindness, even towards our enemies. Memory Work - Luke 6:27-28; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Luke 6:27-36.

Application: Matthew 7:12 is known as the Golden Rule. Jesus says, "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Our lesson today is very similar. Jesus says, "Love your enemies." Making a decision to love your enemy is the first step to treating others like you would want them to treat you. Jesus also wants us to take this action to the next level. Not only should we love our enemies, but we should also bless them, pray for them, give freely to them, and show them kindness even when we don't want to. These are all humble actions and choices that we must make. God is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. We should do the same.
