SERIES DESCRIPTION

Individual lessons that help children celebrate special times of the year and to honor mothers and fathers.

Lesson 1 - Honor Your Mother

Through this lesson, children will see that we should honor our mothers everyday of the year. Memory Work - Exodus 20:12; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Exodus 1:15-2:10; 1 Kings 3:16-28; Luke 1:26-38.

Application: Have the children take some time today to think of all the happy times they have had with their mom,and to be thankful that she gave them life, a home, encouragement, and love. Today and everyday we all should let our moms know that she's a very special person.

Lesson 2 - A Father's Love

Jesus' parable of the prodigal son demonstrates the qualities of a loving father. Through today's lesson, children will learn that all of us can have this type of loving relationship with our Heavenly Father. Memory Work - Proverbs 22:6; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Luke 15:11-32.

Application: Relationships with earthly fathers or father figures, as good as they can be, pale in comparison with the relation we can have with our Heavenly Father. Many of God's characteristics are seen in the father of the prodigal son. In Psalm 68:5, God says He is a father to the fatherless. God's love for us is great. We must quit trying to live life by our own rules or in our own strength and return to God. God is waiting for us with open arms.

Lesson 3 - A Mother's Praise

In this lesson, the children will examine several well-known mothers from the Bible, and learn about the wife and mother of noble character. The children will discover how important the role of a mother is, and how mothers are worthy of praise. Memory Work - Proverbs 31:28; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Proverbs 31:10-31.

Application: Today we learned about the wife and mother of noble character. She was a picture of perfection, and yet her ways are shared by others. Our mothers do many of the same things. Anyone who takes care of us, such as a grandmother, a sister, or an aunt can be like a mother to us, because of all the love and support given. But most of all, God rewards and blesses those women who are upright and faithful to Him. We need to remember also that if we show appreciation for our mothers, God will also bless us.
