ADDITIONAL SERIES RESOURCES:
I Wanna Be Just Like Jesus (Bulletin Board)
Lesson 1 - A Humble Servant
After completing this lesson, the children will learn what it means to be humble, in the same way Jesus was humble. Memory Work - Ephesians 5:1-2; Scripture Reading and Discussion - John 13:1-17.
Application: The Bible says that although Jesus was God, he didn't brag about it. He didn't run around saying, "I'm God, you're not!" Instead, He humbled himself, and took on the very nature of a servant. He came to serve, even unto death. (Philippines 2:5-8)
Lesson 2 - Depending on God
After completing this lesson, the children will understand how they must depend on God in the same way Jesus depended on His father in Heaven. Memory Work - Ephesians 5:1-2; Scripture Reading and Discussion - John 15:1-8.
Application: Sometimes serving and being humble can be hard. Today however, we learned that we can depend on God to help us. If we want to do something, anything, what do we need to do? Jesus made it very clear! He said, “If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit.” How can you remain in Jesus? By reading His Word, by praying, by worshiping Him, and living a life that He would be proud of.
Lesson 3 - Showing God's Love
This lesson will help the children learn how they can love God and other people by examining the way God loves them and how Jesus showed love while He was on earth. Memory Work - Ephesians5:1-2; Scripture Reading and Discussion - 1 John 3:16, 4:7-12; 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a.
Application: Knowing that God, the creator of the universe loves all of us is sure a great feeling. It’s amazing! God want’s us to love Him too. The Bible says that we can show our love for God by obeying the teachings of Jesus. (John 14:23). We also learned today that we should love each other. The Bible says, since God so loved us, we should love one another. (1 John 4:11) We will never be able to match the amount of love shown to us by God, but through His word, we can at least know how to start. That is by practicing Godly love, such as by being patient, kind, humble, generous, and trusting.
Lesson 4 - A Living Sacrifice
In this lesson, the children will learn that to be just like Jesus, they must give their whole self to God and become a pleasing offering to Him. As Jesus sacrificed His life for our sins, so that we may have everlasting life, we must also become "Living Sacrifices", holy and pleasing to God. Memory Work - Ephesians 5:1-2; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Romans 12:1-21.
Application: We are to present our whole body as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. That is the most important thing we can give to Jesus, our whole body. Jesus is the only person who lived a completely holy and pleasing life. He is the only perfect example of living a life that fully glorified God. If we are to be just like Jesus, we need to give up things that don’t honor God, things that keep us from serving Him, and instead offer ourselves to God as living sacrifices for His glory.
