SERIES DESCRIPTION

There can be many stumbling blocks in life which hinder our walk with God. This four lesson series teaches children about four such obstacles: Covetousness, Pride, Lying, and Forgetting about God.

Lesson 1 - Beware of Covetousness

After completing this lesson, children will have an understanding of the dangers of covetousness and how it can destroy or damage our ability to serve God. Memory Work - Psalm 119:36; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Matthew 19:16-22; 26:14-16; Luke 12:16-21.

Application: Covetousness will obstruct our ability to be used by God. (Judas) It enslaves our hearts towards selfish gain. Covetousness reduces or extinguishes our heavenly harvest. (Rich Young Man) When we become enthralled with the things of man, we fail to seek the things of God. We reap what we sow. Selfish endeavors produce no lasting rewards. Covetousness will destroy our happiness (The Rich Fool) through greed and materialism.

Lesson 2 - Beware of Pride

Society promotes pride and high self-esteem as the greatest building blocks for a happy productive life. In today’s lesson children will learn that too much pride or self-esteem is a very dangerous thing. Memory Work - Proverbs 16:18; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Luke 18:9-14.

Application: Psalm 10:4 states "In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God." Pride puffs us up and gives us a false sense of importance. Prideful people boast or brag about their accomplishments and are generally quite arrogant. An attitude of pride is extremely dangerous as it blinds us to our true condition before God. In today's Bible reading, we read how a prideful Pharisee elevated himself above other men. He didn't see his need for God's forgiveness.

Lesson 3 - Beware of Lying

The Bible tells us that God delights in those who tell the truth. This lesson will reinforce the importance of telling the truth and give children practical ways in which they can hide God's word in their hearts. Memory Work - Proverbs 12:22; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Acts 4:32-36; 5:1-11.

Application: God detests or hates lying lips, but is delighted when people are truthful. Hiding God's word in our hearts or memorizing scripture will enable us to live a life that is pleasing to God.

Lesson 4 - Beware of Forgetting God

This lesson teaches the importance of remembering God during times of prosperity. Additionally, the kids will learn not to deceive themselves into thinking that it is through their own ingenuity or strength that they have acquired homes, material goods, or money—opportunities, abilities, strengths, and talents come from the Lord, which we should never forget. Memory Work - Psalm 105:1; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Deuteronomy 8:10-20.

Application:
It is easy to believe that we have arrived and built our empires by the work of our own hands or by using our superior intellect that we have aquired great wealth, but the wise man knows that all good things come from the Lord. Nations that forget and forsake God are doomed and it is only a matter of time before such nations are destroyed.
