SERIES DESCRIPTION

Lesson series for Easter that teaches children about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

ADDITIONAL SERIES RESOURCES:

A (Bulletin Board)

Lesson 1 - The First Communion

After completing this lesson, the children will discover the significance of the Passover feast, and learn how Jesus became the ultimate Passover lamb who was sacrificed for our salvation. Memory Work - John 1:29b; Scripture Reading and Discussion - John 13:1-17, Matthew 26:17-30.

Application: When John the Baptist first saw Jesus, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God." John knew Jesus would be the ultimate sacrifice by pouring out His blood so that we may be saved. Jesus came into this world to save us from eternal death. This was similar to the time when lambs were sacrificed during the Passover. The shedding of a lamb's blood saved the Israelites from the death of every firstborn. When Jesus met with his twelve Apostles to celebrate Passover, as it was done every year, He shared with them the true meaning of the lamb's sacrifice. Jesus knew that His time had come. He knew that His own body would be crucified, and His blood would be poured out for many, so everyone who believes in Him can be saved. Whenever we take communion, remember these things.

Lesson 2 - Death On a Cross

After completing this lesson, the children have a better understanding of crucifixion and the meaning behind Jesus' death on the cross. Memory Work - Philippians 2:8; Scripture Reading and Discussion - Mark 14:43-51; 15:1-15, 22-37.

Application: Before He gave up his life, Jesus cried in a loud voice, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" It was then that all the sin of the world was laid upon Jesus. The sky was dark during this time because God took His light away from the world. The light of God and the darkness of sin cannot be together. Then Jesus cried one more time, and gave up His soul. The Lamb of God had been sacrificed. The Bible says, "God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) We must be very special to God. He allowed His only son to die, so that we may live.

Lesson 3 - The Resurrection

In this lesson, the children learn that the Christian faith is centered on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Children also discover that God gives believers victory over death and sin through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. Memory Work - Acts 2:32, Scripture Reading and Discussion - Luke 24:1-49.

Application: As Christians, our faith is centered on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We rejoice, knowing that Jesus Christ has indeed risen from the dead, giving believers victory over sin and death. The Bible says, "'Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?' The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:55-58. We, like Christ's early followers, should joyfully share the Good News of Jesus' resurrection with those around us.
