Pear Up With Jesus (Bulletin Board)
Lesson 1 - We Can Believe in Jesus
After completing this lesson, the children will understand that truly believing in Jesus means to believe He is who He claims to be, and that He is the Lord of all. Memory Work - John 1:12; Scripture Reading and Discussion - John 10:22-42.
Application: How can we believe in Jesus? One way is by the miracles He performed. Another is by the way He taught those who followed Him. The Bible says, “The crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.” (Matthew 7:28-29) Another is by the way He lived. Jesus served others and lived an unselfish life, to the point that He died on the cross for us. What other proof would anyone need? So we can believe Jesus is who He says He is. We can believe He is the Son of God. We can believe He is the Christ. But it takes more than simply believing to be saved. The Bible says, “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder.” (James 2:19) Unlike the demons, when we believe Jesus is the Lord, we then must take the next step and allow Him to be our personal Lord and savior, by obeying, worshiping, and acknowledging Him.
Lesson 2 - We Can Know Jesus
After completing this lesson, the children will learn that truly knowing Jesus means to have an intimate and trusting relationship with Him. Memory Work - John 6:69; Scripture Reading and Discussion - John 14:1-14.
Application: So how can we know Jesus? The disciples should have known Jesus very well, because they spent many weeks with Him, listening to His teachings, seeing His miracles first hand, witnessing His love and concern for them. And they did know Him fairly well, but only on the surface, like we may know a classmate or neighbor, not as a best friend or our parents. They didn't understand that He really was God. But Jesus offers Himself to us in many ways. His love, compassion, forgiveness, kindness and mercy are always available to us. He is always there for us. The more we let Him become a part of our life, the more we will get to know Him.
Lesson 3 - We Can Obey Jesus
After completing this lesson, the children will learn that we can obey Jesus, because He gives us the Holy Spirit to help us recognize the truth. Memory Work - John 14:15; Scripture Reading and Discussion - John 14:15-21, 23-27.
Application: So how can we obey Jesus? First of all by doing what He teaches us, through His Words in the Bible. But Jesus asked the Father to give us someone very special to help us obey. The Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit, the devil would easily get us to do bad things, lie, steal, cheat, corrupt our minds. But the Holy Spirit actually shows us these things are wrong. He doesn't hit us over the head with a hammer, no, but He does give us a bad feeling when we do something bad. He also gives us a good feeling when we do what is right, even when it doesn't make sense to us at the time. Jesus calls this good feeling, love.
Lesson 4 - We Can Live For Jesus
In this lesson, children will learn that apart from Jesus, we have no life, and when we are living for Jesus we can bear much fruit. Memory Work - John 15:5; Scripture Reading and Discussion - John 15:1-12.
Application: Staying connected to Jesus is very important. He gives us abundant life. A branch of a fruit tree cannot grow or produce any fruit if it is not attached to the tree. The branch gets all of its nourishment from the tree. Likewise we cannot do good things, or bear good fruit if we are not part of Jesus. Our life comes from Him. Jesus said, "My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me." (John 6:55-57 NIV)
Lesson 5 - We Can Love and Adore Jesus
From this lesson the kids will see how they can truly show their love and adoration for Jesus, through worship, praise and by loving others. Memory Work - John 13:34; Scripture Reading and Discussion - John 12:1-8.
Application: Mary showed her love for Jesus in a very special way. Nothing was too good for her Lord and Savior. The fragrant oil she poured on Jesus' feet was very expensive, and would normally be used only a little at a time. But Jesus meant everything to Mary. She loved Him so much, nothing else mattered. Perhaps she knew Jesus would not be with her very much longer. So whatever she had of any value, she wanted to give to Him. Jesus wants us to love Him that much too.
